KEPONG, May 4 — Businessman Datuk Shazryl Eskay Abdullah admitted today he had not observed if the Omega watch purportedly belonging to Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had been filmed in the controversial sex video he released in March.

Shazryl said this when claiming to reporters today that his DNA sample had likely been taken recently to compare with that found on the watch.

“I do not know, I did not observe those things,” he said, when asked if the Omega watch could be seen in the 21-minute video.

Shazryl had earlier insisted that the watch belonged to Anwar, claiming the opposition leader had left it behind in the room where the videoed sex acts had taken place.

He made the claim when screening the video for the first time to journalists at the Carcosa Seri Negara hotel here on March 21.

Shazryl, who at the time had only identified himself as “Datuk T”, said after the sex act, the woman in the video had fished out the watch from Anwar’s belongings while the latter had gone to the bathroom.

He also alleged that Anwar had then instructed the person, whom Shazryl claimed found the video, to return to the hotel room to retrieve the watch.

During the screening, “Datuk T” had also showed an Omega watch to reporters, claiming that it was the watch that had been reclaimed by his group of accomplices.

Since then, Anwar, his wife, and his comrades in PKR have refused to field questions on the watch or produce his own Omega watch to deflect the accusations.

Shazryl and his two other accomplices, Tan Sri Abdul Rahim Tamby Chik and Datuk Shuib Lazim, collectively “Datuk T”, have since surrendered both the video and the watch to the police.

When asked today why the police had taken his DNA sample recently, Shazryl said, “I think in that case, it has something to do with the watch. I was holding on to the watch so there must have been some DNA exposure.”

Shazryl also claimed today that the original clip had not been filmed in Thailand as claimed by some.

He acknowledged there were Thai subtitles emblazoned across the bottom of the screen in the leaked video version.

“I never made that video with the Thai writing.

“But I can confirm that the original video was made in Malaysia. Who did the Thai one, I do not know.

“There was no writing in the original clip, you could only see the dates... But for some reason, whoever who published that (the Thai clip), it had some Thai words for an apparent reason that they know best,” he said.

Shazryl was earlier summoned to have his statement recorded on the fracas that took place at the Masjid Amru Al-As mosque last Friday, where he took an oath of innocence on Allah’s name over the controversy.

He told reporters that he had been quizzed on the events that took place but offered no further details.

Shazryl had invited Anwar to join him during the oath-taking but the latter had ignored the challenge.

He also reiterated his willingness to take a polygraph test to prove that he was not lying over the video but insisted on two conditions — that Anwar takes the test first and that the tests be broadcast live.

“I feel no sense of dread for I have nothing to hide.

“It must be fair, it must be live so there will be no claims of conspiracy,” he said.

Shazryl added that he had never once accused Anwar of committing adultery but merely wanted the leader to admit that he was the man in the video.

“I merely asked — is this him? I went to reporters because you know him best,” he said.
